Haedong Gummu(sword dance)
Haedong Gummu was created through
my longtime sword training. I added some Korean traditional
rhythm to make our mind and body feel alive and fresh. All
the generations may train themselves as well as enjoy themselves
by practicing it.
Haedong Sword Dance was first shown
in the seminar in Busan, Korea on October 21st in the year
of 2000. It was taken out a patent (patent number. 25960).
It was named "Kim Jeongsung's Haedong Sword Dance."
A book with illustration will be published in about several
monthes. I wish more people could enjoy this training.
If you train your mind and body steadily
according to your level, you may get to feel a subtle change
in your own way. That is, you can feel your body more energetic
and your mind free from worldly things.
When you practice this sword-dance with all your heart,
you can feel your energy rise up all over your body. This
is the one of reason why practicing sword and sword dance.
Long practicers may enjoy by oneself to feel and know the
softness and smoothness of this as well as sensible energy
flowing in our soul.
It's the same as the one of Korean
ancestors being enjoying!
Isn't it wonderful to enjoy it by something to special which
we can feel or by developing good coordination and strong
body, etc.?
The movements of Haedong Sword Training look soft and weak
but hard and active. It seems like a simple gymnastics to
outsiders but it's not true. It's out of fixed way and move
as natural flow of spirit. According to your training year
and level, you may show your own peculiar movements. There
is a combination between silent movements and slow breathing
through concentrating on only one thing.
<<In the midst of being silent, your consciousness
get more clear and you can concentrate easily. When you
move, you can be more smooth, elastic and powerful through
managing your consciousness.>>
Body itself was up to mind, and mind controls the energy
of body. Then the energy leads the movement of body. Through
this process, our body and sword will make one and there
will be soft and elastic power of life there. It is just
art, power, and beauty itself. It's my wish that more people
feel, recognize, and get this wonderful thing and then make
their body and mind developed. At the first step, you can
activate your spirit by practicing 'Ki-Mu'(ki means energy
and mu means dance). It helps you practice sword in the
next step by making your body exciting, smooth and elastic.
£ª£ª The movements of sword dance has its origins in Haedong
Sword Training.
A. Ki-Mu: basic posture

Ki-mu is a kind of dance expressing one's spirit. If you
concentrate your own spirit softly, there will be a peculiar
flow of spirit. And you can move your body according to
the flow of spirit. At this moment you can move your body
unconsciously.
You can enjoy this movement if it is combined with our traditional
rhythm. You can enjoy it more according as how much unconsciously
you can be immersed in it and how well you can combine your
breath and movements. And the more excitedly you get involved
in, the more fun your body and mind get.
Ki-Mu(ki means energy and mu means martial affairs) is
also called spirit martial art. To practice this, you should
concentrate your spirit strongly. Your hard concentration
make your spirit flow strongly, and you have to feel the
strong spirit.
As soon as you feel your strong spirit, your body will be
moved unconsciously. Similarly you can enjoy this art more
if it is combined with Korean traditional rhythem.

C. Gyukummu(sworddance which some swordmen puting together
looks like fighting to the music)
Two or more people are needed to show this. It looks wonderful
with more than four swordmen. They may feel the flow of
their spirit and do Ki-Mu and Gummu to the Korean traditional
music excitedly.
D. Ssanggummu(double-sworddance)
It is a creative sword show to practice Haedong Ssang Gummu
based on Haedong SsangGumbub(techniques to use doublesword).
It takes pretty long time to be able to do this because
they have to use two swords at a time. Using two swords
may be a little confusing and hard at first, but experienced
swordmen will be easily accustomed to it soon. Above all,
two swords in both hands can not be incomparable excitement
to one sword practice. I really wish I could share this
wonderful experience with more people.
